In preparing this exhibition, I have selected sculptures that I had stored away and almost forgotten. As if someone else were observing them from the outside, I have subjected the pieces to a review that gives them new value. Finally, I have chosen a collection from recent years, including some pieces that have never been exhibited before and placing special emphasis on my most recent work.

This new perspective has allowed me to discover the different paths that have opened up and generated bifurcations. The awareness of each discarded path has remained, not so much because it was a bad path, but rather the result of choices made at each moment in order to mark out a constant route of creation. In this way, the sculptures have been grouped into various series: ‘The Origin of Sound’, ‘Circular Compositions’, ‘Llavors’, ‘Connections’, “Elevations”, ‘Force Fields’, which I am sure I will be able to revisit and expand on in the future.

Over the years, I have shaped wood in different ways, often assembling it with cast iron elements, maintaining the nobility of the material and seeking polishes to the limit of patience. Other times I have painted it, sanded it and repainted it; sanded and burnished it again to achieve the desired texture.

Some time ago, in a note accompanying a 2015 catalogue, I wrote something like this: ‘I create my sculptures from fragments joined together by thoughts, intentions and decisions that seek to maintain a balance between expansion and restraint. They are drawings in the space of volumes and emptiness, the result of an inner journey of search, chance and desire’.

I believe I will always be able to identify with this thought.

Para la preparación de esta exposición he realizado una selección de esculturas que tenía guardadas y casi olvidadas. Como si fuera otro quien las observa desde fuera, he sometido las piezas a una revisión que los aporte un nuevo valor. Finalmente, he escogido un conjunto de los últimos años, incluyendo algunas piezas que no se habían expuesto nunca y haciendo hincapié especial en la obra más reciente.

Esta nueva mirada me ha permitido descubrir los diferentes caminos que se han ido abriendo y generando bifurcaciones. Ha perdurado la conciencia de cada vía descartada, no tanto por ser un mal camino, sino fruto de elecciones tomadas en cada instante para poder ir marcando una ruta constante de creación. De este modo, las esculturas se han ido agrupando en diversas series: “El origen del sonido”, “Composiciones circulares”, “Llavors”, “Conexiones”, “Elevaciones”, “Camps de fuerza”, que estoy seguro que podré ir revisitando y ampliando en un futuro.

A lo largo de los años, he dado forma a la madera de diferentes maneras, a menudo ensamblada con elementos de hierro colado, manteniendo la nobleza del material y buscando pulidos hasta el límite de la paciencia. Otras veces la he pintado, lijado y vuelto a pintar; lijado y bruñido de nuevo para conseguir la textura buscada.

Hace tiempo, en una nota que acompañaba un catálogo del 2015, escribí algo así: “Creo mis esculturas a partir de fragmentos unidos entre sí, por pensamientos, intenciones y decisiones que intentan mantener el equilibrio entre la expansión y la contención. Son dibujos en el espacio de volúmenes y vacío, son el resultado de un viaje interior de búsqueda, azar y deseo”.

Creo que siempre me podré identificar con este pensamiento.
