“Elevation No. 12” is part of a sculptural exploration of growth, transformation, and the invisible forces at work in nature. The piece is built around a succession of volumes that expand and contract, evoking the organic rhythms found in tree trunks, seeds, stems, and plant formations, without literally representing any of them.
Crafted from wood, the work arises from a direct relationship with the material and a deeply intuitive creative process. I approach carving as an almost automatic practice, beginning with cuts into the wood and allowing each decision to arise from the previous one; yet as I work, a repeated sequence of interior and exterior elements is already established. This can be seen in the creation of this model, which I will use in a second phase to scale up the piece to a minimum height of 3 meters.
In the photos accompanying this text, I show the production process and, subsequently, the installation of the sculpture in Valldoreix (Barcelona), where the sculptures participating in the “5th Valldoreix dels Somnis International Sculpture Biennial 2026” are on display.
The “Elevaciones” series explores the idea of ascent as an impulse inherent to life: the need to grow, to seek out the light, and to expand. In this sense, the sculpture establishes a natural relationship with the surrounding landscape, integrating itself into it as yet another organism, capable of transforming the perception of space and inviting the viewer to pause and observe the silent rhythms of the environment. Rather than simply occupying the landscape, the work seeks to engage in a dialogue with it, becoming a meeting point between human intervention and the spontaneous processes of nature.
